Why Embed Videos?

Embedding videos can transform your blog. Not only do they engage visitors more effectively than plain text, but they also enhance user experience. Videos help keep users on your site longer, boosting metrics like engagement and time spent on the page. Plus, a responsive video ensures your content looks great on any device—desktop, mobile, or tablet. Let’s get started!

Getting Started: Accessing Your WordPress Editor

First things first, navigate to the post where you want to embed your video. Click on “Edit Post” at the top of the screen. For this tutorial, I’m using a demo blog, so the content won’t match the video, but the steps are the same. You’re ready to begin!

Using Embed Responsively

Now, let’s talk about the easiest way to embed a YouTube video: using the free tool from Embed Responsively. This website allows you to create responsive embed codes for various media types effortlessly.

First, head over to YouTube and find the video you want to embed. Click the share icon below the video, and in the pop-up, click “Copy” to grab the link.

Creating the Embed Code

Next, go to embedresponsively.com and paste the link you just copied into the designated field. Click the “Embed” button, and you’ll see a preview of your video along with the embed code.

Highlight the code and copy it. If you’re on a Mac, use Command + C.

Embedding the Video in WordPress

Now, return to the WordPress editor. You can embed the video anywhere in your post by using a Custom HTML block. To do this, click the plus icon to add a new block, then search for “Custom HTML” and select it.

Place your cursor in the block and paste the code you copied from Embed Responsively. Boom! Your video is embedded.

Previewing Your Work

It might not look like much right now because it’s raw HTML. But you can preview the video within the editor by toggling between the HTML and preview modes in the block’s toolbar. However, I always recommend previewing the post on the front end before publishing.

Click the “Preview” button in the upper right corner, select “Desktop,” and open it in a new tab. This will show you how your post will look once it’s live.

Publishing the Changes

If everything looks good, go back to the editor and click the “Update” button to publish your changes. Then, view the finished product by clicking one of the view post links. Your video should be displaying perfectly!

Testing Responsiveness

To ensure the video is responsive, you can use Chrome’s Developer Tools to inspect the element. This will show you how it behaves on mobile devices. A responsive video looks and functions great, regardless of the screen size, ensuring a good user experience.

Benefits of Embedding Videos

Incorporating videos into your content is a fantastic way to diversify. They engage your audience and keep them coming back. Plus, using Embed Responsively makes the process straightforward and hassle-free.

The advantages of embedding videos include:

  • Enhanced user engagement
  • Increased time spent on your site
  • Better SEO performance
  • Improved content diversity
